My first ever newsletter not on Sunday…but some news just can’t wait!
When I met Michael at an Advent retreat several years ago, I didn’t realize what would come of that friendship!
A paradigm-shifting poetry practice.
A lived experience of synchronicity
Life-giving conversations (especially through a pandemic!)
And today, a new book launched into the world!
Michael, Davin, and I sat down last week to discuss haiku. We have talked once a month for over two years, but we’ve never spoken at length about what the gifts and learning of our haiku practice have been in each of our lives.
It was such a fun conversation. I hope if you’ve ever watched one of our haiku conversations, you will take a few minutes to watch this conversation. I always learn something (and without fail a new word or two) when talking with Michael and Davin.

Framing the Moment Haiku Conversations
Here are all the details you need to know about Framing the Moment!
You can purchase a paperback copy or Kindle copy here.
I’m partial to the paperback copy because it includes space at the end of each month for your notes or haiku (we suggest some reading practices at the beginning of the book that you could use the area for as well.). But of course, with a journal by your side, you can achieve the same result with the Kindle!
Reviews really (really, really) help. If you would be so kind as to leave a review, we will be grateful.
Links to every conversation are included in the book, so as you read the book, if you want to hear what we had to say about it when we wrote it, you can access the entire playlist!
Please share it with friends or on social media. . .
A word about our Foreword:
Michael is friends with Judith Valente, an excellent author, and haiku poet. Her book The Art of Pausing: Meditations for the Overworked and Overwhelmed was the inspiration for our haiku group. It’s another fantastic haiku book to check out.
Judith’s most recent book is How to Be: A Monk and a Journalist Reflect on Living & Dying, Purpose & Prayer, Forgiveness & Friendship. I am reading it right now, and I LOVE it. I’m wondering who to start a letter friendship with. It’s a lovely, gentle read. Perfect for the short, dark days of winter-it’s best read with a hot cup of tea!
Her words in our foreword truly humble me. Her blessing for our readers is everything I hope our book will be for our readers! (You?!)
“This is a book full of practical, everyday wisdom, written by practical, everyday contemplatives. I use the word “everyday” as a form of praise, as each of these three writers has mastered the art of seeing the sacred and transcendent in the ordinary. May you keep this book close at hand. May it help you catch your breath, see with fresh eyes, hear with greater keeness. May it bring quiet to whatever chaos surrounds you. May it shed light on the dim places that surround you. And may it inspire you to become part of the ever-unfolding, ever-new, ever-expanding commuity of haiku lovers.”
A personal note:
Thank you for reading my words, sharing them, and encouraging me as a writer. My son said last week after I had spent hours working on this book said, “You have weird hobbies mom, and that’s coming from me and I know I have weird hobbied, but yours are weirder!” (Love that 14-year-old!)
I genuinely love working with words, learning about words, and sharing words. I always hit publish on the newsletter or a book with much fear and trembling. A dear friend said to me last week when I was lamenting how scary it is to share words in the world some good advice, “Amy, anyone who is reading a haiku book is filled with grace.” Yes. She is, of course, right.
I don’t take your readership of the words I write for granted. I’m grateful for every set of eyes that read anything I’ve written, and writing haiku with Davin and Michael has opened up new depths and, in many ways, made me more courageous. I’m so thankful for their friendship.
