This is so beautiful, Amy! I've seen some episodes of Call the Midwife but haven't watched lately. I do love the unique personalities of all the characters. (Plato and Dr. Freud, equally mistaken. Hah! 😂) Thank goodness you found other lifelines when books failed. That must have been startling. One year free of all that ... Now there's something to celebrate.
Amy—I had no idea about your cancer journey. I value your newsletters and I read them regularly. I clearly missed something. So glad this is a new year for you. HOPE is a perfect word on which to set our intentions. I am sending you HOPE from afar. Stay well.
Hi Jann! Thank you! I tried not to let my writing here become a cancer journal. So I take this as a great compliment! I love all the hope and SAGE wisdom you offer! T
Yay Amy! How wonderful to hear you are a year past your last cancer treatment.
Thanks for this awesome hope essay, it's a great reminder for me to get back to Call the Midwife. I don't think I finished the series and I loved it when I watched it.
I appreciate you shining the spotlight on the hope in this series because it draws our attention to that very thing, rather than the drama or the hard stuff.
I wholeheartedly agree that Call the Midwife gives me hope! It got us through the pandemic and continues through these most challenging times. I also read all of Louise Penny’s books. Great insight into the human condition, our frailties, the ghosts of the past that haunt us. Good always triumphs over evil in her novels. The community of Three Pines supports and loves and respects one another. Hope, honor, love, and care of each other and all of creation abound.
Miriam! I considered writing about Lourise Penny's book and Three Pines--for precisely the reasons you shared! Great minds think alike! (I felt a little strange writing about a murder mystery series bringing hope, but it does...I want to visit the cafe and have a pastry, don't you??!)
This was lovely, thank you. (& very meaningful to me, as the post I just wrote on this theme was the first time I've managed to do any writing since my own surgery a couple of weeks ago!)
Nikki! I'm on my way to read your post right now..it's so hard to hold space for things that we love in difficult times...I've heard from several people that they had similar experiences. I hope you are recovering well.

Thank you for the opportunity to consider the question of hope! I love the hope you bring!

Thanks Amy. Take care and I will try to be in better touch. This is your year of HOPE and you will bloom! I value your wisdom too.

Thank you, Donna! I hope you'll go back and spend some time with the midwives and nuns; they are good guides I think!

Yes! The food, the aromas, the weird and wonderful characters…
